Climate Impact of Solar-Powered Water Pumping Projects for the Year 2023
Within the framework of the "Solar Energy Advisor" platform's commitment to promoting transparency and sustainability, this summary presents the statistical results of our analytical study on the Carbon Emission Offset resulting from replacing traditional diesel generators with clean solar energy systems in the water sector for the year 2023.
Key findings of the study in numbers:
• Scope of work observed: 50 vital water pumping projects.
• Geographical coverage: Included 9 vital Yemeni governorates (including Hajjah, Taiz, Al Hudaydah, Ibb, Dhamar, Al Mahwit, Amran, Lahj, and Sana'a). Yemen
• Implementing entities: The projects were implemented by approximately 15 international and local organizations and supporting entities (most notably UNICEF, IOM, Oxfam, ICRC, ZOA, and the Social Fund for Development).
• Total clean energy produced (consumed): 2,103,420 kWh annually.
• Annual carbon offset: Avoiding the emission of 1,577.56 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).
• Total water abundance: For all projects, approximately 1,399,152.5 cubic meters annually (calculated based on a total flow of 485.2 cubic meters/hour with an average of 5.5 hours of operation per day for 300 days per year).
Using a reliable scientific methodology to ensure the highest standards of credibility, the study was based on approved international practices, specifically the "Greenhouse Gas Protocol" (GHG Protocol)
